CSM’s Resume Building Workshop

College of Southern Maryland frequently offers workshops to aid students in their steps forward, including resume building workshops and job fairs.
On Oct. 28, CSM’s Leonardtown Campus held a workshop designed to help students create or critique their resumes. Career Services counselor Liz Madry led the workshop. She said she has been in career/vocational counseling for more than 20 years.
“Many students have not ever created a resume before,” Madry said. “This is an opportunity for them to begin to take a look at all of their skills and abilities and put them on paper.”
And it would have been such an opportunity, if anyone had showed up.
CSM offers different types of workshops like this several times throughout the semester with the hope that it will better their students’ transition into the professional world, according to Madry.
“I think it’s necessary to have [a resume], but I don’t know anything about building it,” said sophomore Nicholas Sarachene from Lusby. “Being able to go to a workshop would be very beneficial.”
When asked about whether or not workshops like this are beneficial, sophomore Dominic Gonzalez from Lusby said, “These skills are vital to have in order to be successful in life and it’s always nice to have that experience under your belt.”
CSM’s occasionally holds job fairs on campus for students to promote themselves. Approximately 15 employers will be at the job fair looking for potential employees or interns. Students are encouraged to bring a resume and dress professionally.
“It’s important to portray that CSM does offer a lot of events…that’s really important. We are here to help students,” Madry said.
